The main distinction between a Life Coaching and Corporate & Executive Coaching, is that the life coach is generally hired to work with an individual to reach a personal, rather than a professional goal.

They are both hired to help motivate and support towards attaining or achieving a particular goal.

There are some parallels and some differences in Life, Business, Corporate and Executive Coaching but all focus on assisting and supporting the individual to attain certain goals or results and all rely on communication and dialogue.

Similarities between Life, Business, Corporate and Executive Coaching are obvious in that life and work can overlap, and the methodologies applied are often similar, but can vary in some cases. There are however some distinct differences.

When we convey the word methodologies, we are referring to similar but sometimes varying; practices, procedures, policies, methods, approaches, styles, tactics, styles and attitudes.

A Life Coaching Session

Life Coaching sessions are typically focused on personal growth and may involve discussing and setting goals, exploring values and beliefs, identifying obstacles and challenges, and developing strategies to overcome them.

During a life Coaching session, the life Coaching client may be asked to reflect on their lives and consider what changes they want to make in order to reach their desired level of personal growth or professional development.

The life coach may then work with you to create a plan of action, and provide support and accountability as the client takes steps towards achieving their goals.

Overall, a life coach serves as a partner in the personal growth journey, helping clients to overcome obstacles, build confidence, and create a fulfilling life!

Alexander Graham Bell once surmised:

When one door closes another door opens, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

Both Life and Corporate & Executive Coaching are about managing one’s way of living and expectations with the aim to achieve greater outcomes and results and enjoy life more. Balancing and management skills are key.

Here we focus on you as the individual and their needs and enhancing one’s abilities to gain more freedom to do more of what you desire and to do the things that you are doing to the best of your capability. Life Coaching tends to focus on the person’s ability and responsibilities and;

  • Personal management style

  • Life Coaching emphasizes the well-being of the individual, primarily removed from management or organizational objectives.

  • Life coaches typically work with individuals who are not in a leadership position, while executive coaches typically work with executives or other leaders or potential leaders within an organization or for them

  • Corporate Coaching generally works with individuals who are managing people, in decision making or in leadership positions

  • Executive Coaching has a more specific purpose at work, addressing; candidates, business systems, managing, organizational culture, image persona, as well as internal factors such as values, development level, board and committee level, etc.

  • The structure, intent and values for all three, are similar

  • Varying degrees of confidentiality – levels to be discussed and defined

Current & Up To Date

In Coaching we as coaches share a lot more of ourselves than 'persay' a counsellor or therapist does and have less restrictions and therefore feel a different connection and communication in a session. Sometimes it can feel alot more relaxed but 'real' which can be incredibly important to often gaining faster results and healthier

Lately we find a rise in people trying to take back control of their own lives and being more forceful about, agitated, angry and sometimes seeking out drugs as a first point of call before any other intervention.

Life Coaching is here to help reduce stress and anxiety and includes examining how you can best overcome or deal with;

  • Time managing how to work, study and save

  • How to focus on achieving goals which may at first feel out of reach

  • Anxieties relating to court matters

  • Significant relationship albeit – mother, father, carer, in-laws

  • Issues relating to loss or grief of one’s image

  • Sleeping problems and anxiety relating to resting or recreation

  • Eating problems, body image and weight control

  • Heart palpitations or breathing concerns

  • Maintaining great energy – understanding vitamin deficiencies, allergies, food intolerances and hydration

  • Maintenance of a healthy diet

  • Attracting more prosperity, money and success

  • Developing a sense of unstoppable confidence and the beliefs and habits

  • Mastering your emotions so they empower you – instead of controlling you

We also have so many more options these days with zoom or video conferencing, telephone calls and face to face at work or at our office which makes maintaining Coaching more affordable and effective.

Issues To Overcome

In sessions lately we also notice that there is significantly much more information readily available especially on the internet which is not always correct.

A lot of people seem to be spending more time searching for information and seemingly not focusing on resolving the actual issues.

The reasons behind justifying what we feel seems to be becoming a trend and it seems to be vast and continuing including;

  • Focusing too much time on personal responsibilities trying to fix global problems instead of one’s own issues

  • A housing crisis making people feel helpless to find a home to buy or rent instead of contacting local, state and national government

  • Social media addictions covered up by claiming they are information surfing

  • Mobile phone and messaging addictions during work and during a session

  • Climate change responsibilities and a sense of doom and gloom causing feelings of almost inertia, panic and anger

  • Addictions or anxiety whereby the parents are blamed for years for separating or making childhood unbearable creating a lack of responsibility or attention seeking behaviours

  • Inability to cope with medications but not addressing nutrition and having a poor diet

Keys to a Great Session

There are many keys to having a great session and maintaining the results you want.

We have found that above everything else ‘honesty’ in a Coaching or a therapy session is key, saves time and is like a breath of fresh air that allows progress to take place faster helping people feel like their lives have been healed.

Greater support for oneself by taking ownership and accountability for one’s actions and repercussions is also key.

Enhancing One’s Ability & Learning Skills

In the Life Coaching journey, you may also come to want to or need to learn new skills or enhance your ability in a number of areas including;

  • Active listening

  • Feedback formulation

  • Communication

  • Empathy

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Emotional intelligence (EI)

  • Critical thinking

  • Decision-making

  • Positive thinking

Emotional Intelligence

Research shows that emotionally intelligent leaders have some specific essential traits in common, however learning to enhance one’s EI can significantly help to improve relationships and many areas of one’s life.

Depending upon one’s needs, a Coach can provide practical strategies to help you:

  • Develop more vital emotional awareness- to be a mindful & empathetic leader.

  • Increase self-regulation and often maintain emotional balance in facing challenges.

  • Develop trust and build effective relationships – home and other

  • Inspire and influence others while building more robust negotiation and decision-making abilities.

  • Develop a personal balance sheet and self-development plan
